Prefer the Present

Anonymous asked: what did you think of Cosmopolis? and are you going to see Compliance?

I thought highly of Cosmopolis, finding Cronenberg’s construction and execution (both thematically but moreso visually) successful in most ways (although DeLillo’s opaque dialogue was frustrating at times; I think Cronenberg handled Burrough’s and Ballard’s meditations on language/power/control a bit more adeptly). I am of the opinion that Robert Pattinson was more than proficient in his performance, and Mathieu Amalric’s performance as The Pastry Assassin stole the show. I just watched the trailer for Compliance (had not seen it before) and I think it looks quite interesting - I’ll try and catch it before it leaves theatres.
